    The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability of height measurement in a clinical setting by estimating its precision and the effects of diurnal variation and supine bone densitometry. Recent progress in quantitative ultrasound (QUS) has shown increasing interest towards measuring long bones by ultrasonic guided waves. This technology is widely used in the field of non‐destructive testing and evaluation of different waveguide structures. Cortical bone provides such an elastic waveguide and its ability to sustain loading and resist fractures is known to relate to its.

    A bstract: Cortical bone mineral density (porosity) values were compared to minimum combined cortical thickness values (for the radius) in normal and in osteoporotic men and women. The normal group consisted of men and women whose ages ranged from 21 to 91 years. The abnormal groups included: (a) 27 men and 35 women with osteoporosis (vertebral compression) whose ages ranged .   In summary, the past 50 years has witnessed tremendous progress in the development and application of bone imaging and bone densitometry techniques, currently providing a vast array of exquisite research and clinical tools to examine and explore the depths and boundaries of the skeleton in health and disease.
